Evaluations

Post by lsat_180 » Thu Sep 02, 2010 8:31 am

What is the deal with these evaluations? Is this something new that started this year? Does anyone know what various schools' policies are regarding these evaluations? If I already have 4 LORs on file I want to use, should I also get evaluations? If so, from the same people or different people (and is it intended for LOR writers to supplement letters with this or to get additional non LOR people to write these evaluations?) Also, they dont get automatically sent anywhere right? Ie they are like LORs and have to be directed so if I change my mind about an evaluator I dont have to send it to the school later/can just send it later in the cycle in the event of a waitlist or something?

Yeah, I've actually combed through almost this whole thing, but the info is sort of scattered on this. Anyone up for a specific convo/thread on this topic?

Ah, so if a schools not listed it means its not required/recommended? I thought it meant no data/jury is still out. E.g. HYS not listed in list (though Columbia and Chicago are)--does this mean they havent said anything, you havent checked yet, or they have said they're not on board with this thing?

Yeah, i'm sure they won't be required...but maybe recommended (ie do it probably)? Did LSAC notify people before they instituted this thing on Aug 15? Also, evaluations are like LORS in that they dont get sent automatically but you need to direct them to schools, right? It seems very redundant when considering the LOR is supposed to include all this stuff...
