Re: List of Class of 2013 GPA and LSAT Medians
It might be helpful to list what last year's statistics were for each school, and to calculate the difference. With any luck this will give a better idea how the field has changed for those of us applying this year.

This is crazy how school's median LSAT score have gone up a point. Give it a few years and the median LSAT at HYS will be 180.

Re: List of Class of 2013 GPA and LSAT Medians
This isn't how it works... it's the median, not the average. Median = score of the person at the 50th percentile (therefore it can't not be a whole number since LSATs aren't scored like that).ajmanyjah wrote:GettingReady2010 wrote:This is crazy how school's median LSAT score have gone up a point. I like seeing this upward swing of GPAs... mine's ~3.9, and it'd be nice if schools are looking to bump GPA in the immediate future here's to wishful thinking

Re: List of Class of 2013 GPA and LSAT Medians
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the median represented the middle figure of all the people in the incoming class. The 50th percentile, so you couldnt have any decimals (unless the middle person was two people, in which case you could have a 171.5 if they were 171 and 172).ajmanyjah wrote:GettingReady2010 wrote:This is crazy how school's median LSAT score have gone up a point. Bah I knew that, but my general point still stands. This could the the acceptance of literally ONE 2.5/172 war hero that wasn't in the mix pushing it up (of course it probably ISN'T because of the size of incoming classes) but are people seriously reading into 1 point median changes?GettingReady2010 wrote:No, that's right.trudat15 wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the median represented the middle figure of all the people in the incoming class. Re: List of Class of 2013 GPA and LSAT Medians
Nobody who hires cares, but people place undue weight on the actual USNWR rankings. For reference, in many years, the rankings of schools by median LSAT corresponds perfectly with their ranking as a whole even though LSAT is not even 1/4 of their score.ajmanyjah wrote:Bah I knew that, but my general point still stands. Mathematically yes, but practically no. Assuming a law school is maximizing its medians effectively every year, it would need to increase the LSAT of a significant portion of the middle of the class to raise its LSAT median.ajmanyjah wrote:Bah I knew that, but my general point still stands. That GPA increase seems huge, especially for a school that is thought to be a haven for splitters with WE. Not saying I don't believe you, I'm just surprised. Does anyone know when the ABA usually releases their updated school data?

ABA data is released toward the end of the cycle, after every law school has already posted them online.St.Remy wrote:IAFG wrote:at orientation they claimed 3.8/170 for NU

LSN shows that 3.75 is about the cutoff for sub-170 LSAT scores, so I strongly suspect that Northwestern's median is actually 3.75 and that they're quoting it as a 3.8.
Based on LSN, I predict that Chicago and Duke also bumped up their LSAT medians to 172 and 170, respectively. That would give a 2-point gap between the T6 and most of the T14, and another 2-point gap between Berkeley/Cornell and the rest of the T14.

Re: List of Class of 2013 GPA and LSAT Medians
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be. Has there been a cycle in recent memory that was less harsh across the board than the cycle that preceded it? So far it looks like the Berkeley cycle might be a bit less cutthroat compared to last year, but otherwise I'd expect the trail to just get rougher. So far it looks like schools are either bumping up the median GPA slightly and keeping the LSAT the same or else sacrificing a bit of the median GPA to garner another point on the median LSAT (but this is just me guessing at a pattern based on few samples).beachbum wrote:Yikes, hopefully this cycle isn't as cutthroat as the last

Re: List of Class of 2013 GPA and LSAT Medians
Hmm has anyone noticed that, if you click on "LSAC Resources Data" below Current Data and Statistics on the (newly upgraded) lsac.org site, the # of applicants was at its height during 2002~2005, and about 10,000 more per year than the last application cycle (about 100,000 ABA applicants in fall 2005 as opposed to 86,600 last year)? Was there a significant median bump then as well? Also, why were there more applicants then but more admitted applicants/matriculants last year?
Or maybe I'm just reading the data wrong. I am on my second glass of hard liquor after being screwed over by lsac, again.

Re: List of Class of 2013 GPA and LSAT Medians
Yeah one of the population spikes reached law school age a few years back. I wasn't paying attention to law schools back then so I don't know how medians were effected, but I would wager that the greater number of admitted applicants is due to more law schools being open and many law schools expanding in size. Sorry to hear that you got screwed.kazu wrote:Hmm has anyone noticed that, if you click on "LSAC Resources Data" below Current Data and Statistics on the (newly upgraded) lsac.org site, the # of applicants was at its height during 2002~2005, and about 10,000 more per year than the last application cycle (about 100,000 ABA applicants in fall 2005 as opposed to 86,600 last year)? Re: List of Class of 2013 GPA and LSAT Medians
IIRC, the number of AA's who took the LSAT in 2009 was lower than 2008. To me this would mean 09-10's AA cycle was less competitive than 08-09's.St.Remy wrote:I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be.
