What are the pros and cons of applying though you know you don't have the best chances at top-choice schools for the sake of seeing what happens. If you weren't happy with what came back would there be any terrible repercussions for applying again in a year?

Do most schools allow you to defer?

I don't think there would be repercussions, but what about you would change in a year? Are you planning to retake the LSAT?

If you're not sure about LS and have a job currently, waiting a year is probably a good idea.

You can defer, but I think you need a reason beyond just wanting to wait a year, and reapplying the following cycle while deferred is often prohibited.

It all depends on your situation, but speaking generally:

If you're a high GPA and low/median LSAT, absolutely take the year and get the highest score you can.

If you're already a high LSAT/low GPA splitter, a few extra points may not make that much of a difference.

Regardless, saving some more money, getting more work experience, waiting out the lagging job recovery, those are all good things.
