If you are a Black male with a 170 LSAT, that is about the 9.9999999999th percentile for black male LSAT takers. Based on that alone, Harvard and Yale are yours for the taking.

No feelings of entitlement here... I'm earnestly looking for suggestions.

Apply to all of the Top 14, see if anybody gives you any money. Likely you will be able to choose between T6 schools with little to no money and lower T14s with some good cash. Think about how much debt you want to have at the end of all this and where you would be happy to spend 3 years. Just havin' a little fun with you. Your cycle will be great. Good luck.

Likely you will be able to choose between HYS with little to no money and CCN with some good cash.
Fixed it for you.

The limitations you put in place keep this from even approaching interesting.. the schools to apply to are obviously the chicago schools, NYC schools, Penn(is philly the northeast?) and Harvard. Yale and Stanford will likely be a bit tough to get unless you have an especially interesting background.

I'm really debt-adverse, so the more money I can get the better.
Also, is Stanford
close to SF...?

You have much to learn.

This is pretty much TCR. HYS are all targets, CCN are all but locks, and outside of T6 you are looking at really good money.

You pretty much have a shot at any school that you want (most with $) aside from Yale. But if you are debt averse and looking for big city life I'd say:
Northwestern $$
Georgetown $$
U Penn $
UCLA $$
USC $$
Emory $$$
George Washington $$$
Boston U $$$
Boston College $$$
I would have added WUSTL ($$$) but I don't think St. Louis will give you the big city life that you're looking for.

Distance wise Stanford is about an hour from SF although Ive heard traffic can get pretty bad. It is also close to San Jose(closer than SF I believe). WashU will give you plenty of money but the Chicago legal market is a wasteland right now so you better be happy with some of the other midwestern cities.

Out of pure curiosity, what is your relationship with Northwestern? Did you do your UG there or is just a school that interests you?
My vote goes to UChicago

When I say 99.999999th percentile, I'm exxagerating.
Because you scored a 170 on the LSAT, you are one of
29 African Americans to score a 170 or above on the LSAT (
based on 2005 numbers). 10,370 AA's took the LSAT in 2005. That makes a 170 the 99.7th percentile for African American's.
(
http://www.jbhe.com/news_views/51_gradu ... _test.html)
I exxagerated by tenth's of a percent.
This is why your numbers are so good. If we assume that half of the African Americans who scored a 170 or above have a GPA of above a 3.6 (no idea if this is a fair assumption), that makes you one of the
15 most numerically qualified African American law school applicants in the world.
When you combine that with your work experience and softs...
Can you see now why Harvard and Yale are great targets for you, and that people scoff a bit when you mention Wash U and Georgetown?
You are a special case my friend, go anywhere you want.

I'm an alumnus of Northwestern.
And, UChicago seems like it could be a good fit.
How's the Chicago market doing? Any worse than others?

What is your major? If it is a hard science then your GPA will be viewed differently than a liberal arts major. You have a good shot at Y or S. Pretty much a lock for the rest of the T14.

You will be applying to 6 schools. Those schools will be Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Chicago, and NYU.
HTH.

I'd apply to the whole T-14. URM cycles can be unpredictable, as can scholarships offers. It seems like URM applicants tend to do better as reverse splitters as well.
OP, I'm sure you'll have a great cycle but I'd recommend casting a pretty wide net. Good luck.
