if you can lie about, it probably won't help that much with your application--i suspect it would be tougher to lie about a fulbright scholarship, some cure you discovered, or a book you wrote

Do not lie. In three years, you'll have to go through the Character and Fitness process, which is very thorough. (I have been filling out the forms because in my state you have to register early.) If they find out you lied on your law school application (which they will actually pull), then you'll have a character and fitness issue and may not be able to sit for the Bar.
It would really suck to get a law degree and then not be able to practice.
There is little reward to what you're going to do, but there is an immense risk.

I've heard of people expanding on things-- saying they did something for longer or something-- but never just lie about it. I doubt an extracurricular will make or break your application, so just be honest. It won't really matter...

You simply have little or no real world experience, certainly not in political matters, political research or politicians where almost anything submitted in writing will be discovered & checked out. Resorting to name-calling is probably the best you can do, however.

Thanks for the attempt NightRunner. My point, in addition to what you have already noted, is that in the real world background checks for security clearances or political matters will research every aspect of one's background & that anything untruthful that is in a signed writing will be discovered.

I had two cases over 10 years ago that involved these areas. Both were settled without public action.

However, if you are really interested, then you should speak with former bar counsels who now do private practice representation before state bars. They usually can be found in the advertising section of the monthly bar association publications. I think that you'll get the education that you seek.
