I would add in why you thought they would have especially great things to say (more specifically, what you want them to say). "As you stated that I did exceptionally well on this paper, I thought you might be able to speak to my research ability." Or, "Because you once said I was the strongest student in your course this year, I thought you'd be able to discuss my academic potential."
I got some pretty strong recommendations this way.

I emailed them and asked them if they were "willing and able" to write me a LOR, and if they were, "I would love to meet with you so that we could talk about my future goals, and what I am trying to highlight in my application". You don't want them to write about your passion for helping people through law, when in your application you are talking about Corporate law.

Thanks...is it weird or pushy to say, "please let me know if you can write this letter for me" at the end (or something of the sort?)

Just tell him/her that your applications are, of course, on a deadline and it would be helpful to know as soon as possible if he/she is able to do this.

Awesome first post.
To the OP, especially if you plan on meeting with them once school starts again, I don't think the email needs to be very long at all. Just say that you really enjoyed their classes, learned a lot from them, would they have the time to write you a LOR? One thing my prelaw advisor told us, that you might want to consider, is that you should say "Would you be willing to write me a
positive letter of recommendation?"

No Sundance I created an account for the fuck of it because I'm bored at work. And here I get on this forum where 90% of the folks claim to be in t14 schools, and the first topic is "how do I ask a professor for a LOR." C'mon. Take your head out of your ass and flap your lips around. That's how. This is why kids need a year or two after undergrad to grow up a little bit and learn to interact with adults before they go to law school.
