Applying Early Decision and Deferring

I've been following this forum for a while but have never posted. Are you able to apply early decision and then defer for 1 or 2 years? Does this vary by school?
It is up to the school whether or not they let you defer. The entire point of ED is to help the school better plan on who is attending.
