I am gathering several letters of rec and plan to assign different combinations of letters to different schools.

My question is - if you are applying to ten schools do you ask your recommenders to each create and sign 10 unique letters each addressed to a specific school and give them a different LSDAS form (with a unique description) to send with each letter?

This seems like a lot to ask my recommenders to do.

Is it common to have them sign one letter "To the admissions committe" and then assign that letter to all schools?

Just wondering the normal/best way to handle this.

Yes its common to have general letters of recommendations. You can, however, if you want to have a target letter for a specific school have them send an additional letter with another form that is labeled appropriately.

All my LORs are general.

I would only do school-specific letters if the content is specific to the school, such as if the recommender is an alum and wants to talk about how you'd be a good fit in that program, etc. Having different letters for just the greeting is a waste of effort.

The most common is to just have general letters.
