TO ASK or NOT TO ASK???

A professor of mine was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. However, doctors were able to remove the tumor but now he must go through radiation therapy. I was a TA for this professor for two years and his research assistant for a year. He was going to be my best letter by far. I kept up with him while he was in the hospital and still do now. My question is would it be rude or insensitive to ask for a letter of recomendation from him? Thanks.

I would say that if you've kept in contact with him since the surgery it would be ok to ask, but when you do tell him you totally understand if he doesn't feel well enough to write it. Don't make him feel obligated.

Hm. I'm usually really against this, but this seems like a situation in which offering to write a "draft" for him might be in line. Especially since you're already close with him.

I think this is a good idea. Or email him a list of topics with examples to discuss.

I didn't ask my prof but we did stay in touch and he asked if I was getting ready for application season and said if I wanted him to write me a LOR for me. He'll be going through Chemo in about a month so keep thoughts and prayers for him. please thanks.
