my academic summary report was just done on LSAC but I don't see where I can find the mean LSAT score of people at my UG?? (there's a table that says what percent are in each LSAT percentile, but it doesn't give a mean score...)

It's below that, in the "Transcript Analysis" section, immediately below "College Code."

What is the purpose of this as far as selection is concerned? Is it in your favor to go to a school with a high mean? What is considered a good mean score?

I believe some schools used to use it for constructing a type of formula to indicate undergrad quality... currently though, no one really knows if its used or not.

Idk but my UG hasn't had very many takers-- we don't have a pre-law program at all and there is only 1 guy who has a JD teaching at our school. The mean is 148!!!!! When I saw this I almost died because I thought they had MY LSAT wrong. I can't tell how this will effect my chances, but no on like to see that number on your paper work....

Assuming your score is higher than that, it is actually a good thing for
you that the mean is so low. It tells the schools to which you are applying that you did
that much better than the other people at your school.

Schools don't really care.

I went to a different UG for 3 years and their mean isn;t MUCH better. If they actually look at my class schedule, I took all really difficult courses-- even my electives for 4000 level phi courses.
But yeah hopefully they will see that. I don't know one person in our pre-law society (only ab 15 ppl) that did better than me on the LSAT, and I only got a 163. It is definitly not a law-oriented school. Which is why I find this site so helpful, because I have NO one to help guide me there.

Law schools really don't care, and any law school that is going to take a 163 definitely isn't going to care. They aren't even going to look at what classes you took.
They take 5 minutes to review your application.

This is going to sound harsh, but no. Philosophy classes are not considered "really difficult," or even moderately difficult. Schools will not think you are amazing for taking them. Now, if by really difficult classes you meant bioengineering or something like that, it'd be a different story.

Definitely disagree with that. Just because a school accepts a 163 doesn't mean they just let anyone in. And for as long as that shit takes on status checker.. it seems like a LOT more than 5 min.

In all, I meant I didn't take any fluff classes. You can hate on those classes if you wish but only 2 of us got an A in one particularly difficult one. With the right professor, some of those courses can be quite challenging. Anyways, I really just meant I never took any BS classes, like it seems most people I know do.

Also no. You get about 5 minutes. That's it. The reason it takes so long on the status checker is because along with yours they review literally hundreds or other applications, and they have to decide who to take/waitlist/reject out of ALL of those. THEN they update your status checker.

Not hating on them - I took philosophy classes too. But just because they may have been difficult for you and your classmates does not mean anyone else is going to think they are difficult when compared to things like the hard sciences.

I didn't know my school had a pre-law society that met and whatnot until after my apps were already in. Oops.

the most helpful thing they did was tell me about this site (trial junky, actually, she was the pres of pre-law at our school last year)
