How to get fee waivers

I was wondering if there was a best practice for asking for merit fee waivers...have most people simply called admissions offices or is it better to write a formal letter?

I'm sure my answer is somewhere in the archives, but apparently the search function is disabled today, so apologies in advance.

Why do they bother with the excellent articles at the top of the page?

No. It's not in the archives. It's in the section entitled "Law School Admissions".

In that section are answers to about 95% of the questions people post repeatedly on here. Very well-written, thoughtful answers.
