Applying ED = forgoing any chances for $$

Hi guys,
I'm planning on applying ED to a reach, and was wondering what would my chances be to receive financial aid of any sort (ie need based/scholly money)?
The general consensus appears to be that applying ED pretty much seals your fate to pay sticker, since why would a school who has you under contract to attend give you anything whatsoever… but has there been exceptions before? I’m a fairly recent immigrant (permanent resident though) and so $$ is an important matter for my consideration. Thoughts? Thanks for your help!
