Working as a Paralegal before enrolling

Does anyone have any thoughts on trying work as a paralegal before enrolling in law school if you don't have legal experience? I'd be 27 if I started school in Fall of 11 and I'm not thrilled about waiting til 28 to start, but I've heard some people think it's both a positive for confirming your desires and getting post law school employment.

Depending on what type of work you will be doing as a paralegal you may or may not be able to tell if you would like law. However, I would say being a paralegal most likely will not give you to much of a leg up. Moreover, it is not worth waiting another year if you have already gone through the process of taking the LSAT and applying.

As someone who worked as a legal assistant (I honestly don't know the difference from being a paralegal) before law school, I can say that the experience looked good to employers. Even though you'll be doing a good amount of grunt work, you can get good experience doing research and writing. Additionally, you can "spin" your work experience as heightening or reaffirming your interest in the practice of law.
