Legal Employment Getting Worse

After what initially seemed like a promising month in May, the legal sector saw its employment numbers drop by 3,900 in June, according to the latest economic report released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In other words, a law jobs bloodbath.
Last month's BLS report initially indicated an increase of 300 jobs in legal services in May, but now the adjusted numbers point to a loss of 600 jobs that month.
Looks like it's not only the law schools that are cooking the books.

I really believe that going to law school today is career and financial suicide. It's mind-boggling. It's the perfect example of the irrational potential of the marketplace.

Anyways, nothing to see here folks. After all, if you get into a T14, you're set for life (as long as you work hard and "network") and even non-law employers will want you because of your prestige.

Do you not see the recession thread posted at the top? Or perhaps you can't read? Or maybe you're just retarded.

Whatever the case, I feel sorry for you.

ITT: Doom

Seriously though, its not just the legal job market that sucks now, its every market. I wish people would post statistics on other sectors of the economy to help put this article in perspective.

As someone who has dealt intimately with the BLS statistics in the past, I can tell you that on a large scale they are generally directionally correct at tracing trends, but the more detailed the stat, the less reliable it is.

Also, "legal sector jobs" aren't just lawyers or even non-lawyers who work in law firms. They also include "parts" of people who publish law materials, marketing firms employed in the legal sector, consultants etc. etc. Hence why the more detailed stats are sort of a wash.

1. Thousands of lawyers get laid off, become disillusioned with the practice of law, and leave the profession.
2. The economy picks back up and the demand for lawyers rebounds significantly.
3. Everyone on TLS graduates from law school.
4. ???
5. Profit.

lolz at all the noobz nad gloomz

It would be awful to put in so much hard work studying for the LSAT and getting admitted to law school, and then put in three more years of hard work, only to find out afterwards that no one wants to hire you for a job. I hope this doesn't happen to me. How are you supposed to pay off your student loans if you can't get a job??? Getting scholarships is going to be super important for me.

Are you guys nuts?

How bad does it have to be for you to realize that law school is a terrible idea? You will curse the day you sent in your tuition deposit. You laugh now, but you will cry later. Even if you don't take on debt, it's a terrible idea. I can attest to that.

You must really hate whatever job you got after graduation. Either that or you are one of those who went to law school because it seemed like a good financial decision, but had no interest in being a lawyer.

The job market (including legal sector) is doing exactly what economists have been predicting it would do. There is no surprise here. The financial indicators showed positive signs and people started claiming the recession was over, but it has been said over and over that unemployment would not recover this year, in fact it would peak during this calendar year, with the best shot at signs of recovery in the 4th quarter.

If anyone on this forum has not already done their research and understand the risk, do you really think it is going to be your voice of reason that is going to wise them up?
