Is law school a good value, in a general sense?

I'm interested in the question of whether law school is a good value, broadly speaking. Is the education, combined with the job opportunities opened by a law school degree (such as they are), worth the tuition charged by the schools?
I wondered if folks could assess the value of the two schools below, considered as representatives of certain types of schools:
Levin College of Law at the University of Florida
Tuition Fee for 30 Credit Hours for an In-State Resident: $16,386.60
Penn Law
Tuition and Fees: $48,362
