lol i googled that shit, but still wasn't sure. i guess it turns on whether I am using it as a proper noun or not. on google the things i saw said never to capitalize it unless it is in the beginning of a sentence. but i remember somewhere that when you refer to it as a specific point, i.e., a semester, it becomes capitalized. I said my question was dumb, but I bet a lot of people would get this confused.

Basic guidelines: Never capitalize it in phrases like "the fall of 2009" or "summer '10." Cap it only if you're a school talking about your own semester (e.g., "Fall 2009 classes"). If you're not a school but want to refer to a semester, call it a semester, not a season.

I actually had this same problem today, don't feel bad!

My thought process...

In the Fall of 2008.... (wait).... (is that capitalized?)... (backspace)....

"In September 2008..."
