contemplating an internship abroad... decent soft? worth the trouble?

One of the adcomms who called me mentioned it. We discussed it breifly. So, not a neg at least

better then a normal internship, but still comes down to numbers. do it if you want but it won't change much.

Depends on what the internship entails. Making copies, filing papers, and pouring coffee is pretty much the same in Chicago as in Paris.

If the internship actually has you involved in the local community/government then the fact that it is "abroad" comes into play in a positive light.

I did one abroad and I think it was looked at pretty favorably. like previous poster said, it's valuable to actually be doing something though too..

I'm close to being completely fluent in the language I would be speaking there; it would solidfy my being able to say i am bilingual on my app. how valuable would this be? change anything?

i feel like being bilingual would definitely help but im not entirely sure on that...anyone have a more qualified opinion?

Yes, especially if it is the Mandarin dialect of Chinese. Different languages can lead to different opportunities while some languages are not beneficial to developing or enhancing a practice.
Mandarian Chinese, Spanish & Arabic/middle eastern languages should open up opportunities both in government & in the private sector to the truly fluent.
For those seeking to open up their own practice--going solo or office sharing--English/Spanish fluency can generate immediate business that is profitable for small offices.
An interesting law school program is the University of Denver's lawyering in Spanish which offers about 8 law school classes taught entirely in Spanish & internships with major law firms in Spain, Uruguay and one other country that I cannot recall (probably Argentina).
A valuable tri-lingual combination for either an international private practice or government positions would be English/Spanish/Portugeese for the Latin American markets.

Do it to become bilingual for yourself, don't do it for law school. It probably won't make a difference in your apps, but being able to speak two languages fluently (and have lived overseas/have experience living in a foreign country) should be something of intrinsic worth to yourself.
