Calculating Your GPA

I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before, but please help me out if you can!

What if your school does technically have "A+" but most professors just don't bother to give A+'s because both A and A+ are 4.0's? For example, for one class I already had an A (97% or so) but did the extra credit anyway which would have resulted in getting me like 140% because the professor wanted everyone to get a chance to get an A (it was a theater production class) but she didn't bother give me an A+ because it'd be the same GPA anyway.
Also, before attending my current school, the college I attended doesn't even have pluses or minuses (it's just A, B, C, D, and F). Would my LSAC GPA be around the same or would it be lower?

First of all LOL at you thinking you deserve an A+ in a class that "wanted everyone to get a chance to get an A."
No, your A's at 4.0's. Your GPA should be the same as long as you don't have any repeat courses, or your schools didn't assign weird values to grades.

I thought it was pretty ridiculous too. I was the only person with an A by the time the instructor proposed an extra credit assignment that would bump up someone's F to an A. If a 140%+ isn't an "A+" where "A+" is possible, don't know what would be.

First, get all your transcripts.
Then use this site (LinkRemoved) to see how LSAC interprets those grades.
Then go to
Law School Predictor and input the grades to see your LSAC GPA.
You could also just send all your transcripts in and wait two weeks, but the first way is quicker. Either way, I am totally jealous of your GPA.

1) If your transcripts don't have A+, then you don't get 4.33. Simple as that.
2) If your transcripts don't have +/-, then you only get A = 4, B = 3, etc.

But one more thing: even according to the site, my school's A- is 3.7 but LSAC A- is 3.67. Will this lower my GPA?

Yes. All minus grades become #.67, all plus grades become #.33

Yes, if you have more A- than B+ (3.33 from LSAC vs your school's 3.3).

This post took a load off my back, found out my school doesn't submit withdrawals, which I thought was going to kill me. (Changed majors alot, had to keep withdrawing from worthless classes)

Hmmm. Apparently, including the grades from my transfer school, my GPA is 3.85 overall according to the law school predictor GPA calculator. I'd been putting in 3.83 (my current GPA from my current school). I guess I'm alright so far.

Yeah man, I had been putting in 2.8 and LSDAS told me I actually have a 2.81, it's pretty sweet.

But I remember my prelaw advisor telling me that the law schools won't see my transfer school GPA. On my current school system it just says "TR" for transfer credit and doesn't even give me the grade.

Wow, I guess everyone is right that prelaw advisors really don't know their ass from their elbow... It's all over the LSAC website, all schools you apply to get copies of all your transcripts.

Phew, I'm glad, then. My GPA from the previous school bumps up the overall GPA.

If you have a bunch of A-'s, then yes.

I hate the freaking A+ schools. This gives a huge edge to people who got a few bad grades and then did really well.

My school technically has "A+"s but they are useless. It's still 4.0 so professors don't bother putting in that plus sign even if they like you.
