Give deadline for LOR writers?

Is it proper to give a suggested deadline to your LOR writers? Would that be presumptuous? What's the protocol here?

I'm probably not going ED, so there's no technical deadline, but I'd like my letters in ASAP, like everyone else.

Definately. Tell them August 1st and remind them 2 weeks before the deadline. Even the coolest profs who totally want to help are slackers and absent minded professors who will let you LOR linger until you miss the actual deadline in March if you let them.

Of course. It'd be obnoxious *not* to give a deadline, since that implies they need to do it ASAP.
