Top Law Schools

Hello,

Here is my issue. I've got an offer at hand a pretty good law school Top 10 with nice amount a money to go. Thing is it all comes with about 100,000 $ in debt.

The lot of my family were/are whenwes, and my grandad was pretty well in with Ian Smith and company so I inherited a pretty nice property with a good amount of land. It's been maintained by my father's company since it came under my control. Problem is lately Rhodesia aint the same. Appropriations have cut my father's holdings in half, and my plot might also be in jeopardy.

I realise I am better off selling the land first and funding my law school before it gets taken but my grandad envisioned generations living on that land and to be honest I'd like to return in the future, but I risk losing the property anyway, so it may just be the only option.

Any thoughts? I don't mind taking out loans, I intended on it from the beginning, should I hold out and preserve my families stake in Rhodesia or am I being unreasonable?

Your question seems a lot more bizarre. Are you aware of where Rhodesia is? I know it's not the same and didn't fair as well as other places, but there are plenty of Rhodesians living around the world.

Secondly: if your're getting a JD in the U.S., aren't you forced to eke out your living here? Thus what is the point of holding on to land you will not live on?

I am a naturalised US citizen I've lived here for over 12 years. I plan on working and continuing to live in the US. I meant further down the line I'd envision myself living out there when I retire.

I'd rather not get into an argument with you regarding the variety of issues associated with the current and past situation in Rhodesia, but to clarify, equating Robert Mugabe with so-called "rights" is about as close to the truth as saying 11,200,000% inflation rate is good for the country.

This isn't a black-white issue.

I don't understand posts like these. Why on earth would people on this forum be at all qualified to counsel you on the political situation in Rhodesia and its potential effect on your land, and whether selling it is worth avoiding debt for law school? How can you expect us to make that kind of decision for you??? Nobody on this forum has any idea what that land is worth in terms of actual value, personal meaning, etc. Just make a choice on whether or not having that land is worth putting yourself into debt.

Nobody on here is going to be able to offer you any sound advice on this unless they happen to be an African real estate expert with a great background in Rhodesian politics. Make your own choice dude...

Funny, I have some close relatives in a country named "Zimbabwe", also ruled by a Robert Mugabe...almost as if they changed the name of the country once they ended disenfranchisement of the large majority black population.

Seriously though, sell the fucking house, it's going to get repossessed or lose almost all it's value in the future, since I'm sure you wouldn't want to live around the people that supported your white African lifestyle.

And to the million dollar bread comment...obviously Ian Smith and the negligence of the British government had NOTHING to do with the deplorable economic situation in "Rhodesia"
