Re: The Future elitist law schools?
Unfortunately in 2008, Cooley was only ranked 12th in "Judging the Law Schools."
But if their library size holds over the next ten years (and they continue to stock said library with a large number of volumes and titles), I fully expect them to leapfrog the University of Minnesota and GWU into the T10.

Kinda like how Stanford "eclipsed" Harvard in 2001 and "uneclipsed" them in 2005?newrich wrote:Oh yeah, I jsut want to add that Stanford Law will completely eclipse H and Y. Stanford was established in 1915? and is already on-par... One must look at the long term to predict accurately.

The T19 will be a jumbled mix of the exact same schools in a decade.. WashU has the money and growing rep to hold off any challengers.

T19 is a Soviet tank, not a term that means anything with regard to law schools.tkgrrett wrote:The T19 will be a jumbled mix of the exact same schools in a decade.. WashU has the money and growing rep to hold off any challengers.

To be fair, T10 and T6 are also complete fabrications.d34dluk3 wrote:T19 is a Soviet tank, not a term that means anything with regard to law schools.tkgrrett wrote:The T19 will be a jumbled mix of the exact same schools in a decade.. WashU has the money and growing rep to hold off any challengers.

Umm, not saying it means anything.. Im just saying the top 19 schools as rated by USNWR will be the same in a different order.Kohinoor wrote:To be fair, T10 and T6 are also complete fabrications.d34dluk3 wrote:T19 is a Soviet tank, not a term that means anything with regard to law schools.tkgrrett wrote:The T19 will be a jumbled mix of the exact same schools in a decade.. True. The T5 and T12, however, are credited.Kohinoor wrote:To be fair, T10 and T6 are also complete fabrications.d34dluk3 wrote:T19 is a Soviet tank, not a term that means anything with regard to law schools.tkgrrett wrote:The T19 will be a jumbled mix of the exact same schools in a decade.. Re: The Future elitist law schools?
to the poster who pointed out the historical concentration of academic talent in the northeast: i agree this is the case, but i think that with populations shifting ever more to the south and west, more top flight talent will select schools in these regions. i only say this because that is what i have done (spurned the northeast for the south), and i believe i can't be the only one.
who knows if that trend will ever translate to rankings though.

Don't forget number of computers! If they just add a few computers they'll be right up there with Harvard, Georgetown and NYU!bankruptedcasino wrote:Unfortunately in 2008, Cooley was only ranked 12th in "Judging the Law Schools."

The only one they ever bump is NYU, since it's only been a top school for a decade or so and doesn't have the reputation with judges and shit.romothesavior wrote:Who are you bumping? I sincerely hope it is not Chicago.AngryAvocado wrote:

Re: The Future elitist law schools?
Strikes me that the schools with room to improve (in a comparative sense) are those outside of the hyper-concentrated markets.
The southern schools -- Vandy, Texas, etc. -- seem to have room to grow if for no other reason than their market is comparatively underserved and their economies are booming. Perhaps the mountain region too -- although I'd be shocked to see CU make any major jumps. Texas should shrink their class size to boost numbers.
California, the northeast, and Illinois all seem to have too much good stuff going on for any other schools to elbow their way in -- UIUC, for example, is already pwned in their 'home market' by two local schools (and by several others elsewhere). How much higher could they go? And Irvine... Nice goal, good start, but not exactly a market in need.
Of course, this is all speculative.

William and Mary will move where W&L used to be, and then will continue imperial march to top 5.

Re: The Future elitist law schools?
I'd love to see that happen. I think they've been making great strides. I'm also going there in the fall and I try not to troll too hard (hence not including it in my list of southern schools). But they've got one of the best in Dean Partlett and the admissions strategies (focusing on a small band of scores and rewarding likely attendees with significant scholarships) seem to be pushing up their medians year after year. There's not a lot of air at the top, but Emory is clearly on the rise.MJMD wrote:What about Emory?
William and Mary is in a tough market. I see limited room for growth.
