Inexpensive shipping for those moving cross-country...

Post by arundodonax » Thu Jun 03, 2010 3:59 pm

For those moving cross-country, a friend let me in on a little secret. Amtrak will ship your items from most major stations at approximately $50 for the first 100lb and 50 cents per pound thereafter. They max out at 500 lbs, 3x3x3ft boxes and 50lbs per box - no furniture or appliances. For me this is about half as expensive as UPS or USPS, and much cheaper than a truck, trailer or pod. Details in the link below.

Do you have to pick up the boxes at the station or do they come to your door?

You pick them up, and they will hold them upon arrival, 2 days for free, $3 per piece per day thereafter.
