POLL: LOCIs - How many??

This is for people waitlisted or those who sent something before an initial decision. How many LOCIs have you sent since your decision rendered or while you wait for a final decision on a waitlist? This does not include a "Request to stay on the waitlist" form where you just sign your name.

All poll entries should be schools in which you had the most contact (most LOCIs).

FYI, clearly I am gauging whether or not I am due for another...

I try to limit them to one per day.

It depends on how long you're on the waitlist . . .

The answer is -- as many as are reasonable given the circumstances (i.e. your interest, and whether or not you actually have anything relevant to report/ update).

No more than one per school, if you expect to get in.

Why would you send more than one? You've already stated your interest in the school by not getting off the waitlist, and one should be enough to convey your continued interest...

That's what I would have hoped. But, Stanford's Faye Deal blogged that potential students should keep in contact. You hear about people who have sent 4 and 5 or one (although those ppl are conveniently absent where my poll is concerned). And, lets not forget about those who have gotten off the waitlist by saying they would undoubtedly attend. But, don't the top schools know you would turn down your other choices?? Ahh!!

These clowns telling you to only send one are crazy.

I got in off a WL having sent 3 and having called the Assistant Dean of Admissions twice. He told me that my continued interest and enthusiasm is what got me in. I was on the WL for 8 months tho. Again it all depends on circumstance, don't set arbitrary limits.

Send only one . . . give me a break.

1 every 2-3 weeks from here on out would be a good rule of thumb I think.

Wow 2-3 weeks... Yeah, it seems I need to get on an update.

It depends on the school. Send four LOCIs to Yale, and your file will go straight to the circular file, or maybe the shredder. Some schools are very receptive to courting, though. Fordham was. Sometimes I think they admitted me just to get me to go the (&$#&* away. (Waitlisted 99 days, behaved shamelessly, eventually admitted.) The answer is that MegaTTTron and TCScrutinizer are both right, depending upon the school and the circumstances.

I have personally spoken to adcomms about a number of issues, including this. One remarked that when they admit off the WL they tend to go to those people who're fresh in their minds and who've shown a real desire to attend--those who've remained in touch through multiple LOCIs and/or phone calls.

It's a balancing act. You want to be persistent, pleasant, but not annoying. If you can pull that off, you have much better chances at getting in off the WL than most folks waiting at that school.
