While on the waitlist can you push back at all ???

by things fall apart
Obviously being admitted to a school is an honor, but getting offers up until the first day of orientation is a bit ridiculous knowing full well there isn't much scholarship/grant money going around.

People need to commit to other places/figure out their work situation and it is a bit ridiculous to be in such a vague position with schools not giving a fuck about your life. I myself got a job offer in Europe(not making all that much unfortunately), and I have to let them know what I'm doing. I have being jerked around by these schools(T30), when they could easily type a few words into a rejection email and waste $1000s from me.

Is there anything you can do on the waitlist? I know this does sound kinda ridiculous(spare your laughter trust me I know I'm a stoopid, vulnerable 0L n00b), but really is there anyway to push the decision or decipher messages from adcoms or whoever it is?

Bonus: Can you defer as easily if you get in late off the waitlist?

Take the job for the year and reapply.

Most schools you can't defer off of a waitlist.
