Rolling admissions questions

so i am just wondering about the whole rolling admissions thing and how it works, i know that the earlier you apply the better, but lets say that someone writes the February LSAT and has all of the other stuff for their applications in place prior to that, that someone then applies to various schools around the february 28th deadline...

assuming that that applicant has a competitive application, how does the rolling admission process work in all this...does he or she have much of a chance for september admission, or not because most schools have already selected most of their students for september?

thanks

Well first a lot of schools won't even accept a february lsat score, so that's one disadvantage. But even if they do, applying that late is a huge disadvantage in and of itself. Schools have already extended hundreds of acceptances and hundreds of thousands in scholarship money by that time. There's not likely to be much of either left for you.

You will still get some acceptances, don't get me wrong. But your cycle will be a lot more unpredictable. And schools that you thought were targets or even safeties might be sending you small white envelopes.

It also sends a negative message to schools, no matter what they say. A huge chunk of being a lawyer is preparation.

What kind of message does it send to apply at the last possible second when they've already received thousands of well-prepared applications?

so if the applicant had competitive numbers with a february lsat, then it would be to his or her advantage to just wait and apply as early as possible for the next year (like wait until september and apply then)?

are you excited for the western conference finals?

Yes, wait. If you're competitive for the school, you're about 1000X more likely to get money if you apply early. At some of the schools I applied to, people with better numbers than me received no money because of their late applications. One girl in the SMU thread got a WL with better numbers than me just because of when she applied.

And no, I'm not. The Stars aren't in it, and the Sharks haven't been humiliated yet. It sucks.

God, I hate the Sharks.

What sport were you talking about?

It's Glendale, technically, though they retain the Phoenix name.

Woah now, no need to be hating on Shawn Marion.

Are we talking NBA here or hockey? Seems to be some confusion. If NBA, then hells yeah. Hoping for a Lakers sweep.

As for the original question, I agree with the waiting advice. Since you know you'll be waiting well ahead of time, you can start early trying to plan your life in your off year (assuming you are coming out of UG; if not, it will at least give you some more time to save before starting law school). It will turn out much better that way than realizing in April or May of next year that you should wait due to options that are poorer than your numbers warrant, and then scrambling to put things together for your off year at the last minute.

I was thinking the same thing about hockey.

Hockey was awarding the oldest trophy in sports about the time basketball was invented, after having been played for decades before that.

Basketball can't hold a candle to hockey.

I'm Canadian and this statement is just moronic.
