Extra Minor vs GPA padding.
Hi i am a third year student at a top 25 undergrad. Double major: Political Science: International Relations, and Economics. GPA 3.3, most recent diagnostic 169.
I am very likely to apply to Law School after i graduate, with the goal of boosting my GPA my senior year.
My question is: am i better served adding a Russian Studies minor to my two majors or taking classes that have an easy grade structure for the express purpose of boosting my GPA.
Adding the minor will still allow me to graduate on time, but I am not sure if it will not be as, easy to boost my GPA.
Anyone have thoughts?
Thanks and Happy Mothers Day.

Law schools don't care about double majors, let alone minors. Scratch that. Nobody cares about minors.

Everyone is wrong and clearly headed to TTTs
The exploration and exploitation of massive energy reserves in Siberia is going to the frontline of international business for the next 50 years. BIGRUSSIALAW is the future. For the Greater Glory of the Rodina, add the minor!

GPA boost, but really, neither - instead, improve LSAT score.
How much prep have you done to get to that diagnostic 169?

That was my second diagnostic after about 4 weeks of prep
I missed:
1 in RC
3 in LR
6 in LG
and that was the oct 08 test.

Re: Extra Minor vs GPA padding.
I suppose in an ideal world it would be cool to have both. But it doesn't appear that law schools care all that much about minors in particular.
And the only time they care about majors is for the purposes of making their class profile look snazzy (i.e. they don't want it to say 28% poli-sci and 19% history majors... they want a few in there that are less common). Most of the upper-crust law schools like being able to have a really diverse group of academic disciplines represented.
That said, pick GPA padding when it is a minor you are considering adding. I think having an atypical major was beneficial for me. But then again, I was above the 75%ile GPA at every single school I applied to.
Then again, if it is something you would really like to minor in and think you can do well at it and raise your GPA anyway, then why not. But in short, law schools ultimately seem to care about the final GPA much more than what you actually studied. Actions speak louder than words.

Re: Extra Minor vs GPA padding.
I think you have a shot at scoring much higher. LG is considered the most learn-able and RC the most difficult to improve. So if this is typical for you, get the LG bible, focus your prep on the games until you consistently -0 them, and see where you're at.planQ wrote:yeff wrote:GPA boost, but really, neither - instead, improve LSAT score.
