To defer, or not to defer

Part of me wants a full year with the chance to do anything I please, specifically regarding art. I want to work on my writing etc. and just absorb myself in it. It seems like the best chance possible. The kicker is that I have been working a few years and couldn't do this before mainly because I had LS in the back of my mind. I figured being under-employed or unemployed would kill my T14 dreams. I would love to just "go for it" and have an excellent plan B totally secured.

On the other hand, I doubt I really have what it takes to do creative stuff, and I'm "wasting" yet another year.

In the big scheme of things however, it seems like I might as well defer and have a year to really say "I tried."

I am totally waffling about this and miserable. :|

Take the year, law school will be there in Fall 11.

From the tone of your post, you sound like the kind of person who will always wonder "what if", so do it!

Don't talk yourself into believing that you will do this on your spare time or after you practice law for a few years because a host of other obligations will ensue.

If you aren't positive law school is right for you, which it seems you are not, then you should defer and/or not go at all. Otherwise, what do you hope to actually accomplish by deferring? If you don't have specific goals, it seems to me you're just procrastinating and wasting a year. Get after it.

I might just accept and pray that what is meant to be, will be... I can always give up my deposit over summer if I feel it isnt right.

The bottom line for me is living a decent life and being proud of what I do. I've met so many dull people in the white-collar corp. America world that it is truly depressing. I would like to be in the company of true "professionals."

Speaking as a 1L who went to LS straight out of UG: I regret not taking some time off. Thinking back, I don't know why I felt the need to go directly to law school. I badly miss my freedom.

Keep in mind that I actually sort of like some aspects of law school, so it's not like I'm miserable.
