Applying September 1st vs November 1st

Post by shock259 » Mon Apr 19, 2010 3:47 pm

Hi all,

I've been studying a lot for the June LSAT and have pushed up my score from a 161 (my score last September) to 165-168 PT's. I'm wrapping up undergrad right now and already have a job for this summer. I've done all the Powerscores and am working through the Kaplan 180 book. I've peaked as high as 173, but more consistently place in the high 160's. I've done about 15 PT's and study about 3 hours a day.

My plan was to take the test in June, then apply as soon as apps open on September 1st. If I can get a 168-170, I would probably ED to Virginia (VA resident), apply to Cornell, and then blanket T14-T25 (my GPA is low: 3.4). My app is entirely ready, minus my new score (LOR's done, transcripts in, PS perfect, etc). I still have a lot of time left to raise my score for June, but I've definitely sort of hit a brick wall. I am also getting busier with finals/graduation/etc coming in the next few weeks, meaning less time to study.

If I had to guess, I'd say I'd pull a 168 if I took it in June and maybe a 170 if I waited until October. If it was the difference between these two scores, would it be better to wait until October? October is still early, right? Would there be any real advantage to September 1st vs November 1st?

I'm thinking I will take a PT a few days before the June LSAT and pretend that is my score. If I could feasibly get into the T14 with it, I'd take the test in June. If not, I'd wait until October and keep studying. LSAT cancellations/noshows/whatever they are classified as aren't frowned upon by adcomms, are they? Does this sound smart?

As usual, thanks for any thoughts/advice!

Shameless bump.

I'm guessing this question is too nuanced/specific for people to provide a real answer to without being on an adcomm. I can settle with "maybe."

If you can get even 1 point higher, you wait.

But don't bother Eding to UVA with anything less than 170. They won't take you.

Even if I'm in-state and apply that early? Sad day!

Not even one person got in if they didn't have at least a 3.85 or a 170.
