Is there a standard practice you should follow when you are on the waitlist and you take the time to visit?
Besides a class visit and tour should you ask to speak with someone in admissions or something? I will be visiting AFTER having sent a LOCI.

I understand the conventional wisdom after a wait list is to visit the school if you're sincerely interested in going there. However, I was wait listed at a top 20 school recently and spoke with an admissions dean. I asked about visiting and was told "to be perfectly honest, visiting or not visiting will not impact the application. That you called and are in contact with us is enough to show your interest." That's not verbatim, but pretty much what I was told. I'd imagine there's merit in visiting for some schools, but you might as well just give a call and ask directly if it's helpful to visit after a WL.

Ive been wanting to visit the school im WL at, but its just not fianancially possible. With flight, hotel and misc expenses, a one day trip would cost about $285. Im poor as hell right now (literally, no job) and I just cant visit if its not going to be the gesture that gets me in.

Go for it if you can though. If I had a job and I had the money or if I was a few hours drive away, I would do it.

Good luck!

Like the above, visiting a school you are waitlisted at will not do any more good than simply being in contact with admissions, and letting them know you are interested. I wouldn't visit, mainly because if you don't get in, it'll make you more acutely aware of what you are missing out on, and perhaps unhappier at the school you attend. Ignorance is bliss.
