No Response From U of Chicago Yet on April 1

I sent my application in early December and got the completed application notification in late December. The school's calendar says they send out applications for regular decision from January through March. It's not April 1 (over 3 months since my application was completed) and I haven't heard back from the school yet. With the admitted students weekend coming up on April 8, is it normal that I haven't gotten a response yet? Does this mean my application may have been a close call or is this normal wait time?

I would call them just to check on the status of your application.

Still better off than me. I have not heard from NYU and Duke and UCLA.

On LSN, most applicants up through mid-December have gotten decisions. I would guess you'll hear in the next week or two. Chicago seems to move at a glacial and painful pace.

Chicago is incredibly far behind. You're not alone by any stretch of the imagination. Read the Chicago 2010 thread on the Acceptances, Denials and Waitlists forum, and you will find plenty of commiserants (myself included).

Illini372 and BenJ:

Can I ask if Chicago is your reach, medium or safety school based on your estimation?

Chicago can be pretty slow. Last year I applied in december and did not hear from them (not even WL) until mid-may. I was accepted, but by then it was kind of late and I couldn't really consider them, so I think it's a pretty big mistake on their part to give decisions so late.

imchuckbass58: Do you think long wait is a good sign? Have you talked to other people who also had to wait so long? Did they, too, get positive responses or waitlisted?

I haven't talked to anyone else who had to wait that long, so I don't know. I doubt it's a good sign, but I don't think it's like other schools where if you haven't heard for a while it means they're just waiting to reject you. They even threw a little money at me (not a ton).

So, don't get your hopes up, but don't give up hope either.

I would be mildly surprised but not shocked by a waitlist. I would be shocked by a rejection. I've already been accepted at Chicago's two peer schools, Columbia and NYU, with small scholarships. (My numbers are 178/3.78 with a lower LSAT score as well, straight from undergrad.)

But that doesn't matter in terms of when a decision comes. Chicago, unlike other schools, works in strict chronological order by when applicants submitted, and they have some December applicants and all January applicants left to give decisions to. (Literally no one who applied in January has gotten a decision yet, even the 180/4.33 URM military vets.)

Sam: I'm on the other end of the spectrum (Pretty killer #'s Ben J congrats) have a 167 and a 4.04 so it's a reach for sure, but who knows right?

Good luck to everyone else
