That was poor phrasing on my part, I agree. But my point was simply that for some people, the increased job opportunities from UVA may not be so staggering that it is worth the extra debt.vanwinkle wrote:Dude, even UVA is struggling ITE. And even though UVA is a national school with great portability, I think if someone wants to practice in the midwest, WUSTL with lots of $$$ may be a better option. Just depends on personal preference I suppose.

Lol. Being hit on by law school students who are drinking is nothing I would write on a resume. I love WUSTL and I don't think there is a better law school experience. That being said, you come off like a bitch and I would tone it down before you come, if you do. Law school is small enough that if you annoy enough people you will find you have no friends... it does happen.donnamartin wrote:No, I am Donna Martin. And in all seriousness, I was the popular blond chick.nyyankees wrote:are you that asian guy who kept asking about LA placement?
Side note: I kind of think this thread is a joke being played by one of the ASD people or something like that. Plus, I asked a couple of my friends who were at the happy hour about the ASD talent and they said their was nothing to write home about. Plus, no one seems to know who the "popular blond chick" is.

There were a few good looking girls, but I don't recall a hot popular blond chick either. As an aside, how is the talent in the law school? I saw a few cuties but again, nothing to write home about.AttractiveNuisance wrote:Lol. Being hit on by law school students who are drinking is nothing I would write on a resume. The average is good for law school. There are a number of gorgeous girls but most have boyfriends at the moment, I think. I'm not going to get into specifics because I am sure some of my friends read this forum and I'm not trying to get harassed. Usually the drama and whatnot is within the 1L class anyways (since yall will be around each other sooooooo much), and I can't tell you anything about them since I wasn't at the happy hour this week.
edit: plus you have SLU law and WUSTL undergrad too.

Re: Did I fall in love with the wrong school?
OK I am done playing along with our little joke.vanwinkle wrote:The argument assumes, with warrant, that one has a better chance of successfully "chasing money" after graduation at a T14 than at WUSTL. Nobody is denying the possibility that you can be successful coming out of WUSTL, but it is certainly a lot more difficult (especially ITE) to secure those high-paying jobs from a school that low-ranked.PDaddy wrote:This argument assumes, without warrant, that one cannot both save money and chase money after graduation from WUSTL. After all, WUSTL has some great job prospects of its own. We all agree that the WUSTL name isn't as portable, but that may not matter.junelsat wrote:The logic behind these decisions is simple - if you intend to chase money after you graduate, you want to go to the top-14 school, because you will be able to get a high-paying job and pay off the debt without worry. If you don't intend to chase money, then take the scholarship, because then you won't be pigeonholed working long hours in the private sector(although you might not even be able to get this job from a lesser school) and will have more financial freedom
I do want to respond to the above reply though. I think the right question to ask is not "what's better in terms of career prospects: graduating top %50 from [name a Top20 school] or graduating top %50 from [name a T10 school]." I think the same person who'd be top %50 at UVa would probably do better at WUSTL and Vandy. Whether she will be top %20 or %30 I can't say. But I don't think that being an average student at UVa would yield better career prospects than being a top student at one of the other Top20 I am considering. Of course, you can't say that being top %1 at a Tear 4 school is better than being at the median in a T10 school, because once you get out of the T30ish range some top law firms or governmental agencies will simply not consider your application because of the school you went to. But as long as you do well in a highly regarded school, a few spots up the US news ranking that are associated with many spots down your class rank wouldn't translate to better job prospects. That said, with respect to networking a T10 would probably be a better choice. For me networking is not a big consideration (because I will marry the rich and the famous).

Re: Did I fall in love with the wrong school?
I'm jealous that you got into a t-10 school like UVA; however, I don't have asperations for BIG Law in markets like NYC or DC so really I'm jealous of your bragging power. BUT, the ppl on here need to get over the fact that the you got better vibes from Wustl compared to UVA. I must say I'm biased cuz I can't wait to study law in Anheuser Busch as well . I must agree with other posters that I doubt many people who attend WUSTL had offers from t-10, and those who do probably have full schollys. Try to squeeze out more! If the love affair is mutual, they'll gladly cough it up. and Congrats! No matter what...you're going to a good law school that many people could only dream of attending.
