2010 SUBSTANTIAL Law School Rankings

I am putting together a "top law schools" list. This is going to be like the Ring Magazine Rankings for boxing--the official word. It take into account all of the important factors that should be taken into account when ranking law schools. This will be annual.
1. University of Pennsylvania
2. Columbia University
3. New York University
4. Stanford University
5. UC Berkeley
6. University of Chicago
7. University of Michigan
8. Yale University
9. Harvard University
10. Georgetown University
10. Fordham University
10. Duke University

The National Law Journal recently (February 22 or 24, 2010) released the results of its annual survey of law school hires by the largest 250 law firms in the nation:
1) Northwestern
2) Columbia
3) Stanford
4) Chicago
5) Virginia
6) Michigan
7) Penn
NYU
9) Berkeley
10) Duke
The above list is arguably the single most important factor with respect to law school ratings & rankings. Another important consideration should be student:teacher ratio for which the top three are Yale, Stanford & Northwestern.

If you want to use this methodology you really need to include clerkships as well. Schools such as Yale, Harvard, Chicago, and Stanford have a ton of students who end up clerking after graduation in lieu of working as an attorney.

I don't understand the metric. Is this by how many attorneys have been hired from these various schools? Is it by % of the class? Is it by perceptions of the hires?
Or am I just being flamed?

The reason schools like Yale and Harvard have lower NLJ 250 #s is that they have MORE options, not fewer -- i.e. not all of them want biglaw and they can get other things like prestigious clerkships more easily. I'd be surprised if there is a single person at Yale, Harvard or Stanford who couldn't find a job in an NLJ 250 if they wanted it.

It is based on percentage of LS class hired. and these stats have been dissected in other threads. and they are also not current to the recession hiring cycle.
