DOES UT-AUSTIN HAVE NATIONAL APPEAL?

I'm a NY'er looking to go to UT in the fall but I've heard that it is really difficult to find work outside of Texas. Are there any UT students who are facing this predicament?
Does anyone have any thoughts on UT's reputation/placement outside of Texas?
THANKS x a million

While most UT students remain in Texas, it isn't difficult for UT students to find work out of state. UT's stats are skewed by heavy self-selection for Texas. About 1/3 of UT students are non-Texas residents, and about 1/3 of each UT class finds employment outside of Texas. Most of those go to NYC, DC, and LA.
Obviously, UT shouldn't be your first choice if you can get into a closely-ranked school in the market you are set on. IE you would never take UT over Cornell if you knew you wanted to work in NYC, and you would never take UT over UCLA if you knew you wanted to work in California. Closely-ranked schools located in those regions will obviously place better in those regions. However, UT will still place decently in those regions.

RARGH CAPS LOCK!
Don't go to UT with the intention of practicing in New York. It is geared to serve its own state, and its alumni basis reflects that. Esc offered some really sound advice.

What is considered "closely ranked?"

UCLA and Vanderbilt and maybe some schools in the 20s (BU, BC, etc). Basically, Texas is super-regional. It has some legitimate national appeal, but strong regional schools will place better in the area than Texas.

Did you read the articles? No I suspect not. They were about news articles written by UT law students criticizing the education they received at UT law. It's not "bad press on atl" but bad press in the news written by UT law students... You can also find out what the national rep among actual lawyers is much better on atl than on tls.

haha well yes, i did in fact read them. in fact, this little gem from the follow-up piece stuck out to me:
The fallout from the Daily Texan article should be relatively self-contained.
if it's a big deal to you, fine, don't go there. but i think an article written by 1Ls with a full semester of law school under their belts about a problem that the faculty has already noted and begun addressing isn't a huge deal. i guess i'm dumb.
