For those of us holding full-time jobs:

I've been giving it some thought over the last few months and threads like this http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 3&t=104810 only add to the dilemma.

How much time should I give myself for preparation (or relaxation) before the school starts in ~August?

What are fellow working TLS'ers doing?

I would say no less than a month for relaxation: your going to be working nonstop for three years.

You mean you're not prepared to walk out in the middle of the day the MOMENT that it becomes financially feasible? Oh, you must have one of those GOOD jobs...

I'm not prepping before hand. I'm going to take some vacation earlier in the summer and my job has no stress. I'll probably work up until school. Rent will be killer in Chicago, I need all the help I can get.

I have a lease till the end of July, so I need to keep my job until at least halfway through the month if I want some extra money to get me started for 1L.

I'm calling this summer my summer of fun. I'm not yet sure what i'll be doing, where i'll be doing it, or how i'm going to pay for it but rest assured, it'll be glorious!

June is the last month on my lease and I am pondering to take a part or all of it off since I prepaid last month's rent before moving in...

I quit my first career about a month ago, about a week after I got a raise (sigh). But I quit to take another full-time job in different area (very tangentially related to legal career) that's way less stressful and in most ways much more enjoyable.

I now can afford the time to agonize over life-altering decisions not only when I'm at home, but also during the work day. Very good for my health.

I spend about 1 hour a day doing actual work and the rest logging in to status checkers, re-reading admitted students Web sites, browsing for new-location information and moving stuff, and re-logging in to status checkers. ... In short, it's super great.

But I'm bailing end of July, unless I can feasibly squeeze in the first week of August. I need all the money I can hoard.

No later than the end of June. Whether it is sooner depends upon housing.

People who prep are losers.

I want to leave the first week of June and enjoy the summer. But financially I think I am going to have to stick it out until mid-July. I am however going to overdraw on vacation, so it will essentilly work out to being part time for May-July. I can live with that.

The second it becomes financially feasible.

Depending on where I end up, I'll probably leave my job the last week of July/1st of August (unless I end up going to Germany in the middle of July to see my baby nephew) because I'd have to pack up everything and move. It also depends on where I find a place and such too. But for now that is what I have told work, my estimate date. And they are aware it might change.

Luckily, my apartment lease is up in my current city middle of May- and couch surfing for a few months doesn't appeal to me- so I've got the whole summer!

Oh my god. July 16th can't come soon enough. I'm dying here.

Walking away from a couple of extra paychecks is tough, but I am thinking about leaving in mid June and maybe taking a 3 week long vacation somewhere then coming home and crushing through some books and seasons of TV shows.

My plan was to circumnavigate the country in a rental car, starting in Florida and then going through New Orleans, Austin, Marfa, Santa Fe, Vegas, LA, San Fransisco, Portland, Seattle and then back through Denver, St. Louis, Bloomington IN, Philly, DC, Chapel Hill, Charleston, Savannah and then back to Florida. You can get monthly rentals from Hertz for about $650 if you get a tiny car with unlimited mileage. I'd be paying that much for rent anyways, but this way I can move out a month early (I have a month-to-month lease). I plan on bringing an Aero Bed and staying with friends along the way. I've got someone I can stay with in over half those cities, thus cutting down on hotel costs.

The only thing that would cost a ton outside of that would be gas and food, but I could just eat sandwiches from a cooler most of the time.
Oh, and alcohol.

It depends where I get in, though. If I get into all my target schools, I'll have to treat myself. Also depends on how much I can save up. My goal is to save enough so that I can live off of savings during 1L. I almost have enough already, so between now and July, I need to save up about another $2K for the trip. Also, I am a bit worried that all that driving would be tiresome after about a week or to. I love to drive, though, and a freind or two might join me for part of the way.

I don't have one acceptance yet, so the whole thing is very hypothetical still. I'm having trouble really getting the time frames to materialize in my imagination.

I just know that my lease is up on May 1st, but that I'm gonna beg our barely-literate landlord to let us month-to-month for a while. I want to work up until the very absolute last second.

I haven't managed to actually save a dime extra, because I've been paying off my credit card at like 500 bucks a month. This should be the last month, and I'm finally free of them. The saving can begin.

It's interesting that this question does not apply to only 2 of 77 people who voted so far.

I wanted to walk out when I got my acceptance . But I'll be sticking it out until mid July so that I can save up a little more $$ for the move to LS and to not be completely broke until the student loan disbursements.

91 DAYS! June 4th, and then, using my shiny new passport.

Leaving my craptastic job at the end of May, followed by 2 1/2 months of living in a cabin in the woods.

UVa doesn't start until Aug. 18 but there's NO WAY I'm working past like the 3rd week of July. I'm going to be moving away from the area I grew up in for the first time in my life and saying goodbye to some of my best friends. I am definitely going to savor the last weeks before I leave and that means 0 work. My job sucks anyway I'd quit right now if I didn't need the $$$$

Law school starts on a Monday in most cases, so I will probably be leaving my job the previous Friday. I got mouths to feed.
