do you think it's a good idea to write to a local school about circumstances that require you to stay in the area for law school?

my situation is i have two parents both recovering from health-related issues- my father is recovering from a stroke and my mother is recovering from both cancer and bowel obstruction surgery.

now i do NOT want to sound like i'm trying to win them over with a sob story or as a charity case, but as their only child and only source of help (i.e. going to the hospital, stores, help around the house, etc), i really DO need to stay in the area.

what do you guys think? should i not write about this directly or imply this in my letter?

This definitely won't work if there are multiple law schools in your area. Otherwise, maybe, but I doubt it.

I would say what I bolded. Don't go into so much detail that it sounds like a sob story (they don't care about the details of the illnesses, but you may either mention "stroke and cancer" or insert some language that the issues are serious), but just stick to the point that you can't leave the area. They'll get the point that wanting to stay isn't for some frivilous reason.

In my opinion the LOCI is to show that you are interested in the school and why. I would also mention in some way that you want to go to that school because you think it's great. You don't want to sound like you are saying "I don't really like your school but don't have a choice."
