Did you apply out of your grasp or safely

Just wondering, everyone out there, did you apply to schools mostly beyond your reach or ones that you thought were safest. If you did apply out of your reach did you have alot of success? All answers welcome.

You should always apply to some reaches, some safeties and some probable admits if you definitely want to go to law school next year. I can't answer your second question sorry. I haven't heard back from any schools yet since I only applied a couple of weeks ago. I would imagine the answer varies based on who you talk to. Some people with very good softs probably got into reach schools and some probably didn't get into any.

Why not apply to both? I applied to 2 safeties and a LOT of reaches. You only get one shot to go to law school (well, usually).

Only apply to safeties if you are looking for scholarship money.

If you strike out at your targets, you can always apply again.

applied to 12: 3 impossibles, 3 maybes, 3 probably's, and 3 definitely's. turns out I was accepted to the back 7 and rejected from the top five. so there you have it.

+1 you are full of good advice

I applied to no safeties to not even subject me to having to make a choice. Set my goals and will work hard to achieve them. I don't want to settle.

LSP breakdown of my apps (w/results so far):

4 "auto admit" (4 offers, w/$ to $$$ and one possible full ride, depending on my negotiation skills)
2 "strong consider" (one WL, the other a late app)
6 "consider" (two WLs)
3 "deny" (one ding)

Due to shitty LSAT (and refusal to take more than twice), my search is heavily influenced by geography. I probably went a little overboard on the safeties.

But I still like to think it's a healthy mix, particularly given the range within the 6 "consider" schools. I'd be stunned if I went 0-6.

I applied to two safeties but I kind of wish I hadn't. I won't go to them and wouldn't have unless all else failed, so I wasted their time and mine.

As far as LSP:
3 auto admit (1 offer 1/2 ride, others pending)
2 strong consider (waitlisted, pending)
6 considers (1 admit, 5 pending)

for me, the key was sitting down and honestly asking myself if I would be happy if i went there for three years. In that sense, I only applied to schools I could see myself happily at, I dont think any of my schools were safeties. Also, I wasnt an "admit" for any school i applied tom mostly denies, considers and two strong considers. fwiw, i havent heard from the strong considers i applied to plus one more that i thought i had a good chance at. If you dont think you will be happy at a school, then dont even give yourself that as an option.

Edit: i just rechecked and apparently im just a huge liar. I didnt apply to any admits or strong considers.

Breakdown:

Deny : applied to 8, rejected at 3, 5 pending
Weak Consider: applied to 3, all pending
Consider: applied to 8, accepted to 4, pending at 4

I received a bunch of fee waivers for schools that I wasn't considering (super reaches) so I applied because of that. My targets are T20-30, but I sent an app to 9 of the T14. Got one waitlist.

According to LSP

7 Considers (My chart has NO Weak Considers possible - Only Deny or Consider... - WL at Duke, No rejects thus far)
6 Strong Considers (1/1 so far of these)

Some Number of Auto-Admits (though...BC is considered an auto-admit, and this cycle is proving that very wrong for many)

Applied to 17 schools, according to LSP:

Admit - 2 (two acceptances w/ $$)
Strong Consider - None
Consider - 9 (three acceptances w/ $$, one acceptance w/out $, five pending)
Weak Consider - 3 (all pending)
Deny - 3 (one ED rejection, two pending)

Edit: 9 fee waivers.

I applied to:

1 Weak Consider (currently "held")
2 Considers (2 acceptances)
3 Strong Considers (1 acceptance, 1 rejection, 1 still waiting but I smell a WL coming on)
7 Admits (5 acceptances (1 w/ $$), 1 still waiting, 1 withdraw)

I know this is a little heavy on "safeties," but:
1. I'm a splitter, so I don't really trust LSN
2. I got a lot of fee waivers
3. All but 2 of my "safeties" are t-14, so I don't think they really count
4. Scholarship negotiation 8)

According to LSP I applied to...

1 deny (rejection)
3 "weak considers" (accepted to 1, waitlist at another, still waiting on number 3...)
2 "considers" (accepted to 1, waitlist at the other)
1 "strong consider" (held)

I got into one of the considers way back in November (T10) though so I stopped thinking about applying anywhere lower. Wouldn't have applied to the "strong consider" if I hadn't had a fee waiver either. What can I say... I'm an adrenaline junkie!! also hope that doesn't screw me come scholly time

Unless you're genuinely interested in a school that also happens to be an easy admit, I think the idea of a "safety school" doesn't make sense. Law school is a big deal. If you have no real enthusiasm for a school, you shouldn't apply. This applies even if you think you can get a scholarship, imo.

I applied to 8 schools, and according to LSP:

1 - strong consider (admit w/ $)
4 - consider (1 admit w/ $, 3 pending)
1 - weak consider (rejected)
2 - deny (1 admit, 1 pending)

LSP isnt as good as looking at the LSN graph. Schools have gps/lsat cutoffs that LSP doesnt seem to put into consideration. For example, at my weak consider, I knew I had no chance because I did not make the lsat cutoff required for someone with my gpa, while at the deny school I was admitted to, I knew I had a chance because my lsat was within their acceptance range.

Weak Consider - 1
Consider - 4
Strong Consider - 3 - 1 rejection, 1 waitlist
Admit - 2 - 1 accpetence, 1 have not haerd anything from

I think I'm complete or under review at the rest.

I would say so far its been disappointing and not expecting it to get any better.
