I need your feedback guys,
I'm a black male at USC(southern cal). I have a 3.6 gpa. I was wondering my chances of getting into Duke Law with a 160 LSAT score?
Thanks

I would aim much higher than a 160. If you have a 160 I would keep studying and retake, you have plenty of time to study and improve if you're a sophomore.

Shane,
First of all, you are headed in the right direction for putting advance thought and attention toward your future plans. You have time to properly prepare.
1. In the short term...focus on bringing up your GPA over the next few years to hedge your position. If you are planning to attend right out of undergrad, you will have little else besides GPA and LSAT for them to use as an evaluation tool. Study harder and focus on classes that interest you.
2. Do something interesting with your "off time" and summers. Not only will unique experiences give you another dimension to your application, they will surely broaden your horizons and perspective. Everyone will volunteer and hold leadership positions in undergrad...this is good, but challenge yourself too...travel abroad is always a good choice.
3. Begin studying for the LSAT gradually...but not for another year. Definately take a prep course if you are able...money is no excuse. Find someone who has the same goals as you and form a study/support relationship. This will keep you from gaffing off and keep you focused. Take the June LSAT so you can apply early.
4. Apply early. That will mean that you will have to have your LORs and transcripts posted in LSAC about end of August. Also, have your resume, personal statement and any other writing samples completed by July/August and make sure you have had some trusted people proofread your submissions. Rolling admissions benefit the early submissions.
5. Visit the school and try to meet with anyone in the admissions office. I know Duke does not do interviews, but visit the school anyway, take a tour and drop by the admissions office to ask questions. It never hurts to let them put a face to a name.
My last comment. Alot of people will counsel you that because you are black there will be a lower standard applied, or that you will have an easier time getting into a school. Don't buy into this or you might fall short. Go after the best scores you can get, and put the best effort you can into your package. You will get into a school because you are the best you can be, and you have succeeded at proving this to the admissions committee...not because you are black.
Best wishes and good luck.

ehh good job getting on it early.. advice from a black male with high lsat and a middling gpa holding him back.. KEEP YOUR GPA UP.. get a 3.7 and add a 170+ to it and you are in at every school in the country not named Yale.. Right now Im working on getting straight As this semester just to get my LSDAS gpa above 3.6 and i cant tell you how much id give for that extra .1 in hindsight.
