Admission Chances

Hi Everyone,

I will be applying to law school this fall (2010) and have been following some of the craziness around here and taking some notes that I hope will help. But, it occurs to me that I could just ask directly. I have a 165 and 3.98. I have pretty good softs (3 years teaching English to middle schoolers and 1 year as an education researcher). I am hoping for a T-14 acceptance, but I'm thinking I'm just a little under the cut-off, LSAT-wise. I know HYS are outside the realm of possibility, but what about others? I have seen on the boards that certain schools seem to value high GPA splitters, but how can I tell which schools these are? If not, T-14, a T-30 would be great, too.

If anyone can advise, please let me know.

While a 170+ would certainly make you a much better candidate, you only need a 167 to become a serious candidate for the lower half of the T14.

You will be or have?

You're very late in the cycle. Despite the LSAT, I'd say you have a shot at Berkeley - they like high GPAers and love PI work experience. Lower half of T14 would make you competitive as well.

I'd say your shot at some school in T14 are good, though significantly limited if you're applying now.

Then definitely retake the LSAT, even just a few points and you're golden. Your GPA is great but 165 is a little low, I think you may be ok at the lower T14 (LSP gives you around 50% at most of these schools right now) but two or three points could make a world of difference here (LSP gives upwards of 70-80% chances with a 168). Good luck!

You should be set for T-30 with a 3.98/165, and T14 is a possibility as well.

good for t30. Totally worth it to spend the time and retake the lsat though. It's stupid but the points between 165-170 are huuge in admissions to t14.

lol, i always find it hilarious how this is the go to answer on TLS.com... Examples:

I have good numbers but the cycle is almost over and I want T14!! What Should I do?

Ans: ED at UVA.

I have a 172 and a 3.8 but all the schools are waitlisting me!

Ans: ED at UVA

I was suspended for having a giant machete in my room! It was only decorative, I swear! What to do?

Ans: ED at UVA

I saw two people with my 0% of research that got admitted this cycle with 162/164 & 3.9s/4.0s at UVA. I'd say my answer is warranted. However, you're still correct
