Update, can I try and beat the system with UVA late ED?

OK, so last night I had resolved to apply ED today, but now the news is that Cornell apps (my real top choice) around my app date are going decision. Does this sound like a good idea:

I'm still complete at UVA, if I wait until I go "review" to call and say "put me on hold, I'm submitting ED", will updating to ED still work. It could buy me a few days to try and hear from Cornell and a few others.

There is no "under review" status at UVA.

I applied last monday for Ed- heard back on Thursday (ding). it seems that most people who send in their ED apps hear back in a few days. UVA > Cornell. If you don't get into UVA, no harm, no foul. Also it doesnt have any impact on your merit aid decision.

I think this late in the cycle, the benefit of applying ED is reduced.

Isn't a late UVA ED the opposite of beating the system?

Not if you wait until you've received almost all your other acceptances/weren't given money/hadn't been accepted at your real top choice (Cornell)...and then decide 'Hey, I know where I can go/where I've been accepted. They are attractive options. But if I get accepted ED at VA then I'll go there for sure." Seems like an interesting idea to me.

That is, you're given the preferential treatment of an ED applicant with the added benefit of hindsight.
