UVA medians higher than better-ranked schools?

I've never really been interested in UVA, but just checked out its stats - how does it maintain a 3.85 / 170 median?? Berkeley ranked #6 is only 3.84/169 (I think)... what gives?

And... Stanford is 3.87 / 170. So... someone who has UVA's medians is only .02 gpa / 0 lsat pts away from stanford? huh?

Standford expects well rounded students. UVA will take splitters.
Stanford could massively raise their numbers if they tried playing the numbers game like UVa does, but who cares? Standford isn't a top school because USNWR says it is.

Because USNWR rankings aren't the end all be all for determining which school is better. UVA and UCB are pretty much peer schools.

I guess UVA students are more intelligent and since they have higher LSATs and they will be more likely to have good 1l grades then stanford students.

These are all peer schools in the T10:
Berkeley: 3.83/168
Michigan: 3.70/169
Penn: 3.82/170
Virginia: 3.85/170
IMO, Berkeley has lower LSATs because they value softs more. Michigan has lower numbers because people prefer the urban areas of Berkeley/SF and Philly, and Charlottesville has better weather. Similarly, Northwestern and Georgetown have 170 medians compared to Duke's 169 and Cornell's 167, because students prefer Chicago/DC to Durham/Ithaca.

As stated previously, Michigan, Penn, Virginia and Berkeley are all peers. They have similar LSAT and GPA medians and they get those medians differently. UVA takes more spitters, Michigan takes more 3.8, 169 people, Berkeley takes higher GPAs and softs, Penn im guessing is a combo. I mean, is it that hard to believe that a Top 10 school has extremely high medians? Stanford is not 3 because their numbers are ridiculously better than anyone else, they are number 3 because they are stanford.
