what do admission commitee actually do when they review?

Post by ykim5 » Wed Jan 27, 2010 2:47 pm

One of the schools that I applied to in oct, told me that I will definitely hear from them by beginning of January.
and then around 2 weeks ago, I asked, they told me for sure by end of january and if not please call the admission assistant....
Today I emailed the assistant which I became pretty close to.. (we both have two year olds and we got talking...anyways)
she said, my file is still under review and thanked me for my patience.

I begin to wonder what do they really do??
do they call all my volunteer services and ask what kind of person I was?
do they call my old bosses?

Isn't it just reading few essays and looking at my numbers?

Who are actually part of admission commitee?
I heard it is not those who work in the admission office but the professors.
and if they already have full time job as academic, how do they find time to review files!!?

You ask a few interesting questions that others on here may be more qualified to answer.

However, they don't call your bosses or volunteer coordinators or anything.

They've got an academic report from LSAC, which includes your LSAT score and undergrad grade information, and all the materials you've submitted -- your PS, addendums, resume. They use that.

I don't think they necessarily double check your credentials. But the character and fitness board will...

It's comparison shopping. Being ur for a while may mean they think ur a good candidate but have to compare you to others some more and they decide which to go with.
