Any benefit to applying to schools you dont want?

I dont get people who have 4.0, 180 LSAT, applying to all the T14. I swear I see stuff which approximates that.
Is there some benefit I'm overlooking? Why not just apply to those you really want to go to, and have a shot at?
My own methodology was "4 reaches+1 safety+4 have-a-shot-ats"

You can get scholarship money and use it to leverage more money out of the schools you truly want to attend.

You might also change your mind. Especially if your "don't want to go to" school gives you a full ride.

There's really no good reason not to. Almost all of the T14 will give merit waivers to a 180/4, so it's only $100-200 for apps for a person blanketing the T14 with those numbers.

Benefits: Scholarship negotiating, changing your mind, safeties.
No negatives in applying besides application time and cost.
