Thoughts on my addendum?

I'm writing an addendum to call the adcoms' attention to a change in my GPA. I had a 3.23 at the end of my first year, but my GPA since then has improved to a 3.72, with a 3.97 in the interim. Does this seem like a reasonable use of an addendum? Language okay? I'm new to all of this and would love to hear any thoughts...

Dear Admissions Committee Members,

I would like to explain the upward trend in my grades following my first year at [top 2 public university]. When I began at the University, I was overly convinced that I was now ‘a little fish in a big pond’ despite graduating as salutatorian of my high school class. Regrettably, this resulted in a measure of complacency on my part.

However, my Resident Advisor was an excellent influence. As a mentor, he showed me that academic success is often simply the result of a decision to succeed. I took the lesson to heart and redoubled my efforts thereafter. Using the LSAC’s grade conversion system, my GPA since my first year is a 3.97. I believe this number may provide a more accurate reflection of my aptitude as a student. Thank you for your consideration.

Sounds like your grades dropped because you were some sort of lazy/unmotivated. I say don't add an addendum.
