Top Law Schools

Chicago is my first choice, and I'm trying to do everything I can to get in there. I'm in a tough spot though so I thought some of you guys might be able to help me out.

I'm debating between taking an additional Econ class not required for my major, law and economics, which I may be able to pull an A-/B+ in, but I'd say a B to be on the safe side. My question is whether I should sacrifice the GPA pts for the course. Here's some data:

With an A in a different class my GPA will probably be 3.73
With the Law and Econ class, assuming a B, would be 3.69

Assuming a 170 on the LSAT (just for sake of argument that I'm a contender at UofC) the % At/below is 44% with the 3.71, and 48% with the 3.73.

Assuming a 171 on the LSAT the % At/below is 51% with the 3.71, and 55% with the 3.73.

My question is, given what other have said about the UofC process being wholistic, given my interest in Law and Econ, and given the potential material such a class could give me for my personal statement, should I risk the GPA drop?

Normally I'd say it doesn't matter, but you are extremely close to U of C's GPA median. If they are aiming for a 3.7 median you might get waitlisted.

But why are you so sure you can't get an A?

Can you take it pass fail?

Runnin the numbers again I found that even an A-, all things equal, would put my at a 3.69. Pass/Fail leaves me in the same spot. Decisions Decisions.

Why does pass/fail leave you in the same spot?

Whether I take the class and get an A- (3*3.333) or take the class pass/fail (which I assume is 0 quality pts and 0hrs towards my cumulative), my GPA would still be 3.69

Awesome. Good book? Lacking any notable life experiences outside of philosophy classes, I plan to put some emphasis in my PS on this law class. Was it worth it?

Just take Geography of the developing world, I think its Geog 101. Easy, sort of interesting, and yea easy.

Or better yet, ask around for a class that gives out A+'s. Most of mine never did since they didn't count towards the GPA, but they will for law school.

Thanks for the insights, you're really helpin me out. I looked through it the other day, it looks like the kinda stuff I want to be doing. Sounds pretty good from what you're saying too. I only have 12 hours this semester anyway, and its nothing too hard, plus ~15/wk on the lsat so I think I should be good.
