I just got an email from the UVA dean of admissions asking me to call him. Anyone know what this is about? Do they call people they accept?

Congrats!

Now you can change your user name, I suppose.

Cool. Although it's kind of bizarre that they would ask applicants via email to call them. Other schools would just call and give the good news.

Are they trying to feel applicants out and yield protect? Tricky.

Most people aren't on websites like this one regularly, so most do not know that the e-mail to call is going to lead to an offer of acceptance. The admissions office prefers to tell the student directly--I've been told it's their favorite part of the job, and it's better for the student too--rather than through voicemail, so they have the student call them.

Doubtful. Law school is on his horizon.

I guess they've learned that it's more efficient. God knows they're busy enough; this way the Deans themselves (who are often the folks making the calls at schools) aren't wasting valuable time dialing numbers, waiting for rings, getting voicemails, getting busy signals, fielding unexpected returned calls, etc.

I'm surprised more schools don't do it this way. I've actually missed every single acceptance call received this year because my cell service is so poor -- they've all been missed calls (which I've had to return) or voicemails.
