Do they really turn down people with 175 LSAT

So a person from the ohio state admission office just said "we turn down people with that score all the time". I'm incredulous because I was under the impression that only 99.6 percent of test takers score 175 or above, which would be about 500 people a year. Is my math wrong? Or are there a lot of people like me with 174-175 scores and 3.00 gpa's?

Yes. All the time. Im sure there are plenty of 175+ that come off as a douche/have multiple felonies/write a terrible ps/lousy LORs/terrible gpa etc etc also factor in a 176 will most likely not attend OSU unless they have some damn compelling reason for staying in Ohio...

Even if 50 people produced a 175 a year, it doesn't guarantee that they'd excel through law school and it certainly doesn't ensure they have the potential to become a great lawyer.

The LSAT isn't an intelligence test... or ethics test, or illustration of what drives a person, etc, etc, etc. In short, I don't think it should be surprising (in fact, I HOPE there's more of this) that schools aren't basing the decision to admit a person on a single, potentially superficial, criteria such as the LSAT.

If you scroll to the bottom it lists the number of applicants in each range, and the number of accepted students. It looks like 8/8 applicants with 175+ were accepted. But 4 applicants (of 39) in the 170-174 range were shot down (all GPA < 3.25).

I got a very good score and didn't put as much effort into my applications as I should have. It certainly made the application cycle more difficult. Law schools want to know that you actually desire to attend there, so just because you do exceptionally well on the LSAT does not mean you are guaranteed to get accepted to any school that isn't Harvard, Yale or Stanford.

Ok but my question is how many are there in the first place. You can't reject people all the time if there are only 500 people out there which would mean lets say 30 in the entire state of Ohio, how are they rejecting people all the time with that score.

They lied to you. 8/8 that applied with 175+ accepted.

They denied a few with >170, <3.0, however.

I'm sure they do. I'm also sure they're pretty well aware that about 99.9 percent of 175+ scorers wouldn't be going to Ohio State anyway.

And, FYI, it's called an exaggeration. I'm sure the vast majority of adcomms out there love to paint their school as oh-so selective.

Based on this I'm going to guess ANYONE with a 175 would be an auto-admit at Ohio State

go to: http://www.lsac.org/
choose the link for "Official Guide to ABA-Approved Law Schools": http://officialguide.lsac.org/
use their selection system to choose a school.
the individual school will have two PDFs ("ABA Law School Data" and "Law School Description")
The PDF linked is "Law School Description"

Haha it would be really awful if 99.6 percent of test takers scored a 175+. I'd be at Cooley, or worse.

Very few schools practice hard YP. Especially regional T1's. Because someone from Ohio might make OSU their first choice after the t14. And because YP only helps move the yield slightly, and yield is only a small part of USNWR.

Of the top 25, it seems like only Michigan, Penn, UVa, Minnesota, and BU had strong YP. Cornell has a weaker YP (they probably just WL people who have shitty apps but great numbers on the impression that its a sloppy safety app).

I would doubt that statement. They are not rejecting people all the time. I highly doubt that students with 175+ LSAT scores are applying to Ohio State University. They are all aiming at T14 schools, so for Ohio state University to state that they are rejecting students with 175+ all the time- I find that statement to be flawed.

There are some. I applied to Indiana, and Iowa, OSU's peer schools looking for possible scholarships with my 176 and my TTT GPA. The is a small, yet significant group of mega splitters out there.

High, but not 100%.

Though with a 3.04, 175 I'd apply to Georgetown, northwestern, Michigan, Cornell, and Penn as well.
