Top Law Schools

I was trying to find more information about Duke on TLS and was surprised at all the hate toward the school. It also appears that the vast majority would chose UVA over Duke. Why is that? Could someone shed some light on this?

Because most top law school applicants attend schools in the northeast.. the northeast breeds an ignorant hate towards the south.. (I mean ignorant in the literal sense.. as in they fear what they dont know)

Ok, I get the anti-South thing, but UVA is part of the South too. Why the love for UVA and hate for Duke on TLS?

Okay, I'll stop. It's just a regional diversity issue. The south is no different than the northern midwest to me.

I haven't seen any hatred of Duke here except for the fact that it is ranked lower than 9 other school, therefore anyone who is accepted into the better schools can ridicule at Duke's expense. What are you referring to?

I've noticed this too. I think some of it has to do with people's impressions of Durham (which is actually kind of a cool place to live), the fact that it's in the south, and the fact that people have this idea that everyone that goes there is a douche. I think Duke is super cool personally.

(i may or may not be in ug there as we speak).

I don't see hate for Duke but rather its ignored on TLS.

How many collars are you currently popping?

Will be honest - When I applied I was not a big fan of attending either UVA nor Duke because both are in the South, but I think their QOL would be decent, at least for WASPs. Additionally these two probably have the least decent reputation out of the top 14 schools where I am from (west). Basically NOBODY has heard of UVA out here and while people know of Duke, it doesn't have the great rep that it has in the South.
