I'm actually interested to hear opinions on this as well. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to retake in Feb. if my Dec. score isn't what I'm hoping for.

Curious bump... not about the OP's question, but just about how many times this will get bumped without an answer...

I feel like a higher LSAT score definitely couldn't hurt. Especially since it's one of the two things they look at most.
Although, I would definitely write a nice letter to each school about how it's your top choice, you haven't heard yet, but you're planning on retaking the lsat in february and hope they will take your new score into consideration.
The next step: do better!
Just a thought.

can they really do that?

Legalite wrote:I plan to take the Feb test (retake) since my cycle isn't going so well (although I did get a few acceptances). All my apps are already in. I have a few questions I was wondering:
1. If I take the Feb LSAT, will schools find out that I am in for a retake?
2. Assume I do better, will it have an effect on waitlist/scholly possibilities or will my fate be already decided before Feb scores are out?
3. Assume I do worse, schools would not find out unless I ask LSAC to send reports..right?
4. And assume the schools do find out (a lower) score, will be acceptances be rescinded or are the acceptances I've already received safe?
Any thoughts welcome.
Edit: I should add: I didn't plan to retake so I did not indicate that in my apps.
1. There is debate over this. The answer is generally unclear, but it does look like schools are informed as soon as you sign up for the retake.
2. Yes, depending how much higher you score it will help you get off waitlists or get more money. No question.
3. LSAC updates your report as soon as new information is added. You can't hide a lower LSAT score, though most schools look at the higher score so it won't hurt you.
4. Nope, they can't rescind an offer of admission based on a lower score. Once you are in, you are in. Unless you misrepresented yourself in your applications or something materially changed (ie. You flunked your last semester and won't graduate)

Today is the last day to register without a late fee. I sent an email to the school that I would attend that has offered me a scholarship to find out if a lower score would alter their offer, while making it clear they would still be a top choice of mine in the event I score higher. I am going to follow up with a call today. I am not sure how to handle the other schools that haven't rendered a decision. I applied November 1st to schools and want them to consider my application as is. I am thinking I will take February for my one WL thus far and other potential WLs. I just haven't decided how to communicate with the schools about this yet.

Sociologically, I think no. (relative to non-believers and Jews, that is)

One other thought to consider. If you have taken the LSAT twice already, and your scores were somewhat far apart, say 162 and 168, then the schools will probably just consider the 168.
But if you take a third time and score in the middle, like a 165, then they might instead consider the middle score as your "true" score. I've read interviews with a few admissions people who say exactly this.
I seriously considered taking the Feb LSAT, but since I can't guarantee that my score would go above my current 170 I've decided not to risk it. Plus, some schools claim they will hold my app until March if I take the Feb LSAT, which would really put me at a disadvantage.
