Hello everyone!

I'm currently struggling to come up with an idea for a mandatory diversity statement, and I was wondering if I could get some input on a potential topic.

Sparing the details, I grew up severely overweight and was able to drastically change my life through hard work and determination. It’s something that has had a significant impact on my personal values and outlook on my life that I believe gives me a unique perspective.

I’m worried that this topic may be too sensitive and possibly ruffle some feathers. I wouldn’t frame it as being overweight as a negative attribute, just talk about what I’ve learned from my experience and how it would add to the diversity of ideas.

Does anyone have any thoughts/input/ideas?

That sounds like an awesome take and meaningful, "diverse" perspective to offer. Obesity definitely not something everyone has overcome! Make sure you get some eyes on it to make sure you're being sensitive to whoever might be reading, but it sounds like this is important to who you are. I say go for it!
