Format Issue

Post by thatcandoromg » Sat Jan 06, 2018 5:25 pm

Just a general question.

Will it be a big mistake if I use font size 11 or less than 1 inch margins to fit my writings into two pages/one pages? I am afraid if law schools/lawyers hate that.

Thanks.

Not sure about other documents in law school/legal world in general, but many schools are okay with 11 point font on personal statements. (Of the schools I looked at, only UCLA explicitly stated they wanted 12 point, but there are likely others so you should check for each school you're applying to. Also, don't go lower than 11.)

And usually manipulating the margins below 1 in. is frowned upon (seems like the advice would be "be more concise in your writing instead"), although I'm not sure if it would be a deal breaker if your stats/writing are excellent.

Or just shorten your statement. If it's running over two pages, it's too long.

Instead of abusing margins/fonts, edit or get a good editor. I guarantee there are words you can delete.

I was directly told by an admissions officer that 11 pt. was fine, but that the document should absolutely be only 2 pages if using that size. Don't mess w margins.

11 pt should be fine most of the time (just check with each school and make sure). I wouldn't mess with the margins. They should never be smaller than 1 inch. You may be doing this already but try putting your name and LSAC number in the header. That will free up space for two lines. If you still need help condensing it into two pages, feel free to PM me and I can help you edit it.
